ASSERTS FURY ANXIETY IS ‘REAL’ AND INDICATES ‘THE GAME HAS BEGUN
The anticipated bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk set for February 17 won’t proceed as planned, and finally, we hear from the Ukrainian maestro.
With just over two weeks left before potentially achieving his lifelong ambition of unifying world title belts in both cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions, Usyk (21-0) faced a setback. Fury (34-0-1) sustained ‘a freak cut’ during sparring on Friday, leading to the postponement of the match. It’s rescheduled for Saturday, May 18.
Following the announcement, the boxing community went into frenzy on social media, fueling debates and conspiracy theories. Amidst the chaos, Usyk remained mostly silent, waiting for the dust to settle. However, he has now broken his silence.
Reflecting on the Fury postponement, Usyk stated to Boxing King Media: “I returned home thinking I would see my [new] daughter earlier than expected. But, I feel fine, not disappointed. I trust in God, and whichever path He leads me on is the best one for me. The game has already begun, and whatever is destined for the future has been written.”
When questioned about the video purportedly showing Fury’s cut, Usyk commented: “It was a punch with a fist. You can see the direction of the elbow following the fist afterward, but it’s difficult to ascertain from the video. There’s a clear uppercut – a very clear one – but whether it caused the cut, we don’t know.”
Regarding the ongoing verbal spat between Fury and Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas, Usyk kept his response succinct: “I’m unsure if he [Fury] desires to fight me or not, but his fear is palpable.”
