18 People Lost Their Lives in Saurya Airlines CRJ200 Crash
A CRJ200 aircraft belonging to Saurya Airlines crashed during takeoff at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The accident, which occurred at approximately 11:00 local time on July 24, 2024, killed 18 people. Of the 19 people on board, only the captain survived and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.Details of the Accident
The aircraft that was involved in the accident was a Canadian-made CRJ-200ER model, 21 years old. The aircraft was on its way from Kathmandu to Pokhara Airport (PKR) to repair another aircraft, carrying 17 technicians and 2 crew members. The accident occurred when the aircraft veered right after takeoff and crashed approximately 200 meters east of the runway centerline. The aircraft burst into flames after the impact, and rescue teams brought the fire under control and recovered 18 bodies.

Official Statements and Previous Accidents
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal said in a statement after the accident that the plane turned east shortly after takeoff and crashed on the east side of the runway. It was reported that rescue operations were launched immediately and the fire was brought under control, 18 dead bodies were removed and one injured person was taken to hospital.

This accident is one of the deadliest in Nepal in recent years. In January 2023, a Yeti Airlines ATR 72 crashed before landing in Pokhara, killing 72 people. It was the deadliest plane crash in Nepal in the last 30 years.
