American Airlines to add flights to Carlsbad airport: report
CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Locals looking to fly out on a commercial airline from somewhere besides San Diego International Airport will soon be able to at McClellan-Palomar Airport (CLD).
American Airlines announced it has added twice daily nonstop flights between the Carlsbad airport and Phoenix, AZ, FOX 5/KUSI’s reporting partners the San Diego Union-Tribune said on Friday.
Starting on Feb. 13, 2025, outbound flights to Phoenix will depart at 6:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., according to the paper.“American looks forward to connecting Carlsbad to our comprehensive global network starting next February,” the airline said in an emailed statement to the U-T. “This new service will provide convenient one-stop connections to destinations across the United States and Mexico while bringing travelers from around the world to see all that Carlsbad has to offer.”
Jamie Abbott, director of airports with the County of San Diego, told the paper American Airlines last operated out of the CLD between 1991 and 1997 when its American Eagle brand flew between Carlsbad and Los Angeles.
The new flights between Carlsbad and Phoenix will be operated by American Airlines subsidiary Envoy Air using the 76-seat Embraer E175 aircraft, the U-T reports. It will also be flown under the American Eagle brand.
