American Airlines now offers more seats in Premium Economy than any other US carrier
Three years ago, American Airlines was the first American airline to introduce the Premium Economy experience. Now, the airline is once again leading the industry by becoming the first US airline to complete the installation of Premium Economy seating across its entire widedoby fleet. Customers who choose American now have access to 3.025 Premium Economy seats – more than all other US airlines combined.
Premium Economy is located between Flagship Business (Business) and Main Cabin (Economy) on long-haul international flights and behind Flagship First (First Class) on select flights to Hawaii and Alaska. The class is available on 124 Boeing 787 and 777 and Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Premium Economy travelers have more legroom, wider seats, extra recline, extendable footrests and a different dining experience compared to the main cabin.
Premium Economy customers can also relax with a Casper blanket and lumbar pillow, plus enjoy premium Amenity Kits and a chef-inspired meal paired with wines selected by Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey. On land, customers are still entitled to two free checked bags and priority check-in in the United States.
Premium Economy is the perfect complement to the many travel experiences we offer, giving you even more options in flight”, says Janelle Anderson, Vice President of Global Marketing at American. “We are the first American airline to introduce Premium Economy and we continue to invest in new ways to ensure that customers’ time on American is well spent with high-speed Wi-Fi, live TV, new amenities and much more. ”
American launched Premium Economy rewards earlier this year and is now offering AAdvantage program members more ways to spend their miles. In addition, American was recognized in April as the Best North American Airline in the Best Product “Premium Economy” category by the 2019 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards for Airlines. The award is based on the quantity and quality of reviews, as well as traveler ratings on TripAdvisor, over a 12-month period.
The number of Premium Economy seats will continue to increase next year by more than 10% as American takes delivery of 12 new Boeing 787-8s.
