The unofficial end to summer may be just a few weeks away, but United Airlines has increased its savings for its popular young traveler discount on flights for a limited time.
Travelers who book by Friday, August 16, can take advantage of the 15 percent discount on United’s app for domestic flights only. The eligible travel dates for this promotion are between Aug. 16 and Nov. 21.
This limited-time offer is part of United’s broader young adult discount program, which provides an ongoing five percent discount on eligible domestic and international flights. The savings apply to the base fare of an economy or basic economy ticket, with the latter subject to a $65 fee for carry-on baggage. Travelers can also save five percent on flights booked through United’s app on international carriers in the Star Alliance, including Air Canada, Lufthansa, and more.
To qualify for the young adult discount, travelers must be between 18 and 23 years old at the time of booking. They are required to create a free MileagePlus frequent flyer account and enter their birthdate. United will verify their age using travel documents, like a passport or driver’s license, which must be uploaded online or via the mobile app.
For travelers who aren’t part of Gen Z, United has recently introduced several exciting features to its app, including an automatic seat-switching function. During booking, travelers can indicate whether they prefer a window or an aisle seat, and they will automatically be moved out of a middle seat when one becomes available. Additionally, travelers can access proactive rebooking options if their flight is canceled or delayed by more than 60 minutes, as well as receive automatic meal and hotel vouchers and real-time bag tracking updates.
