American Airlines expands operations in Rio de Janeiro
American Airlines plans to strengthen its presence in Rio de Janeiro for the 2023/2024 holiday season, announcing additional service on its Miami and New York routes. During the peak season in December, the airline will operate up to 17 weekly flights from Rio – increasing its capacity by 38% compared to the previous year.
From December 5, 2023, through March 1, 2024, American will add three weekly flights on the Rio de Janeiro (GIG) to Miami (MIA) route, increasing daily service to ten weekly flights. From December 21, 2023, through January 7, 2024, there will be two daily flights between GIG and MIA. The route will be operated by Boeing 777-200 aircraft, with capacity for 272 passengers, and Boeing 787-8 aircraft, with capacity for 234 passengers.
Additionally, from December 21, 2023, to January 7, 2024, American will increase its GIG-New York (JFK) service from three weekly flights to a daily service.
“We look forward to further strengthening our presence in Rio with additional service to Miami and New York,” said Gonzalo Schames, America’s director of operations and strategic alliances for South America. “In addition to our flights to Rio, we also plan to operate up to five daily flights from São Paulo to the United States, all of which will underscore our position as the leading U.S. airline in Brazil.”
In addition to flights to Rio de Janeiro, during the 2023/2024 holiday period, the airline plans to operate up to five daily flights from São Paulo (GRU), including daily service to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and New York (JFK), and two daily flights to Miami (MIA). From December 22 through January 8, American will operate three daily flights to MIA from São Paulo
