A drummer was stunned after he discovered his band members’ American Airlines tickets were selling for 200 percent more than his own.

Ryan Fox recently explained the situation in a TikTok video after looking to purchase tickets for him and his band members to fly to Tennessee.

All the musicians besides Fox are starting their travels from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

Because Fox was originating in San Antonio International Airport (SAT), he had to take an extra flight to meet his bandmates in DFW – but his ticket was still only $260, while the others were $787.

‘How is their plane ticket 200 percent more? That feels illegal,’ Fox said.

Fox, a member of Dexter & The Moonrocks, revealed in his August 25 video he was getting the plane tickets so the band could meet with their label in Nashville.

His plan was to fly to DFW and meet the other musicians, and all would take the same flight to Nashville International Airport (BNA).

Fox will also be the only band member to have three stops, which played a factor in his plane ticket price shock.

Luckily, Fox and the other band members didn’t need to purchase the tickets out of their pockets.

According to the drummer, he and the other members purchased the tickets with their label’s credit card.

The shocking airfare prices comes months after the International Air Transport Association said 2024 would ‘mark the end of the dramatic year-on-year increases’ in a report.

However, John Grant, chief analyst at the travel data company OAG, had a different opinion about this year’s airfare prices.

‘There will be a continuation of the status quo, with only minor fluctuations in fare prices,’ Grant told CNBC in January 2024.

‘Although we may see a slight shaving of fares as demand softens in the very low season, the fundamentals of a high operating costs base remain [plus] increased salaries, oil prices etc. suggest that we will not see much of a shift.’

Unfortunately, airline tickets are continuing to rise due to inflation, and their rates even hit 8 percent this year, according to the Consumer Price Index.
Various TikTok users wrote stories about their international flight experiences, and gave advice on what Fox can do next time during the ticket purchase process

Various TikTok users who watched the musician’s video have written about their own plane ticket stories, and explained what they do during the booking process.

‘The way me and my friends did it was you buy the ticket so it shows your price and then screenshot it and send it to them so that the airline price matches,’ a TikToker wrote.

Another person suggested: ‘Try switching VPN locations and changing IP in between searches. For real, they adjust price based on your history.’

Others insisted international flights were worse, and one person allegedly flew from Indiana, to Michigan, to London for $2,500, with a flight from Detroit to London being $5,000.

‘It’s because they are competing with some other airline from SAT to BNA that probably flies non-stop,’ claimed a commenter.

‘There’s no non stop competition from DFW to BNA.’
