The story of the offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs was the influx of new weapons for Patrick Mahomes. With the additions of speedy wide receivers Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy, 2024 was expected to be a big bounceback season for the Chiefs offense.
But before we could even see them all on the field together in the regular season, “Hollywood” went down with a shoulder injury in preseason. He was expected to be ready to go within the first few weeks of September, but his injury did not heal properly, forcing the Chiefs to place him on IR on Friday.

Marquise Brown to miss regular season, but could he be back for playoffs?
Brown opted for surgery, and it now sounds like he will more than likely miss the entire regular season.
It’s a big blow for the Chiefs offense, but a key piece of information was mentioned in ESPN’s report.
“There still was a chance Brown could return for the postseason, but he was not expected back any sooner than mid-January, sources told Schefter.”
It’s not a sure thing, but it sounds like Brown could be back for the playoffs if everything heals properly. It’s a long way away and Brown will have missed a ton of live reps to build chemistry with Mahomes, but adding a wideout of his caliber during the final stretch of a Super Bowl run would be huge for the defending champions.
In the meantime, Worthy, Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce will pick up the slack in Brown’s absence.
